Nagpur: In a chilling case of domestic violence turned fatal, a 40-year-old woman was found murdered at her residence in Ekta Nagar under MIDC Police Station limits. The woman’s husband has been booked for murder following a post-mortem that confirmed she died due to a brutal assault and suffocation. The deceased, identified as Sheetal Johnson Mandpe, was discovered in a grievously injured condition on the morning of May 22.

According to police sources, the incident took place sometime between the night of May 21 and the early hours of May 22. Her husband, Johnson Pralhad Mandpe (41), informed relatives that she had suddenly collapsed at home. She was rushed to AIIMS Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Initially, MIDC Police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR). However, suspicions were raised by Sheetal’s family members, especially her mother Gautami Chavan (60), who claimed that her daughter had been subjected to ongoing mental and physical abuse by her husband.

Sheetal and Johnson had been married for several years and had a teenage daughter. However, the relationship reportedly deteriorated over the past few years due to Johnson’s alleged extramarital affair. Family members revealed that the couple often fought over his suspected infidelity, and Sheetal had confided in her relatives about regular harassment.

Following the family’s insistence and visible injuries on the body, the police ordered a post-mortem examination. The autopsy revealed severe blunt force trauma to the head, chest, and face, and the cause of death was confirmed as suffocation resulting from a violent assault.

Acting on the post-mortem findings and based on the complaint filed by Sheetal’s mother, MIDC Police registered a case under Section 103 of the BNS against Johnson Mandpe.
