Nagpur Crime Branch Unit 5 Nabs Vehicle Thieves; Two Cases Solved

Nagpur: In a significant breakthrough, the Crime Branch Unit 5 of Nagpur Police successfully apprehended three individuals involved in vehicle theft, leading to the resolution of two pending cases. The police have recovered two stolen two-wheelers and another motorcycle used in the crimes, valued at approximately ₹1,20,000.


According to police on September 28, 2024, between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM, complainant Nikesh Dhansingh Rahangdale, aged 45, reported the theft of his Hero motorcycle (registration number MH 49 BP 2401) worth ₹50,000. The vehicle was parked with its handle locked outside his rented residence near Chhoti Dayanand School in the Jaripatka area of Nagpur. Based on Rahangdale’s complaint, the Jaripatka police registered a case under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified suspects.



During the investigation, officers and personnel from Crime Branch Unit 5, acting on reliable information received from an informant, conducted a technical analysis and reviewed CCTV footage. This led them to the suspects identified as Akash Sanjay Nagrale, 27, resident of Pitesur, Gorewada, Yogesh Chhabilal Chavan, 25, resident of Manas Mandir, Nari Road, and Devendra Dulichand Thakre, 24, resident of Nagarjun Colony, Jaripatka.


Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the theft of Rahangdale’s motorcycle. Further questioning revealed that they were also involved in stealing another two-wheeler from the Koradi police station jurisdiction. The authorities recovered three vehicles in total, including two stolen motorcycles and one used in the thefts, with a combined value of ₹1,20,000.


The accused, along with the seized vehicles, have been handed over to the Jaripatka police for further legal action. The investigation into the case is ongoing.



This operation was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur City Police Commissioner Ravindra Singal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil. The team led by Senior Police Inspector Rahul Shire, Assistant Police Inspector Rahul Rote, and other dedicated officers, including Tapplal Chute, Rajusingh Rathod, Chandrashekhar Gautam, and others, played a crucial role in the success of this operation.
