Nagpur: In a swift and commendable operation, Unit 2 of the Crime Branch arrested a 22-year-old man for the brutal daylight murder of his mother-in-law near Sitabuldi’s Civil Lines area on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, identified as Maya Madan Paserkar (48), was fatally attacked with a sharp knife on a public footpath near Kalakunj Dance Classes.

According to Sitabuldi police, the incident occurred around 1:30 pm when Maya Paserkar was returning from work. The accused, Mustafa Khan (22), originally from Palwal, Haryana, and currently residing on rent at Gajanan Nagar, Hingna Road, Nagpur, allegedly waited for her outside the building where she worked and then chased and stabbed her on the neck, killing her on the spot.

Maya’s husband, Madan Jiyalal Paserkar (60), filed a complaint at Sitabuldi police station, prompting immediate registration of a case under Sections 103(1) and 103(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Family Conflict Led to Murder

During investigation, police found that the deceased’s daughter had married the accused Mustafa Khan in a love marriage. However, the victim was unhappy with the relationship and had asked her daughter to return home. Tensions escalated after Maya reportedly refused to return ₹5 lakh that her daughter had allegedly given to the accused.

Officers revealed that Mustafa had purchased the weapon in advance and planned the murder after repeated disagreements. On the day of the crime, he lay in wait and followed the woman before launching a fatal attack.
