Nagpur: A technician with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) was allegedly assaulted while carrying out an inspection at a celebration hall in Nagpur’s MIDC area after he asked the accused to switch off the electricity supply, police said.

The incident took place at Ganraj Celebration Hall on Jaitala Road, under the jurisdiction of MIDC Police Station, between 4 pm and 4.20 pm on July 28.

According to the complaint, Manoj Prabhakar Shivkar (32), a technician with MSEDCL, had gone to the hall to inspect the premises. At the time, rain water had accumulated to a height of nearly half a foot around the electrical supply panel.

Police said the accused, identified as Dattatraya Wankhede, his son and another associate, allegedly acted in concert and assaulted Shivkar and his colleague Ritesh Kumar Shende with fists. The complainant alleged that the assault also obstructed him from carrying out his official duties.

Following the complaint, MIDC Police registered a case under Sections 132, 351(2), 35(B) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
