Nagpur: A case has been registered at Jaripatka Police Station after a Mahavitaran (MSEDCL) recovery team was allegedly abused and threatened with death while attempting to recover pending electricity dues in Nagpur. The incident occurred around 1 pm on Thursday near Dayanand Park, outside a shop identified as ‘Tea Lover Shop’.
According to police, Assistant Engineer Vinay Gondhule of the Civil Lines Sub-Division, along with a recovery team comprising Rupak Upthade, Moreshwar Patle, Sonali Waghmare, Ajay Kanojiya, Pankaj Varkade, Ajay Morya, Roshan Randive, Pravin Nitanware, Rajkumari Marsakule, Darshana Gurumule, Apeksha Bahadure and Tarachand Dubey, was conducting a drive to collect overdue electricity bills in the Jaripatka area.
The team visited ‘Tea Lover Shop’, located near Dayanand Park Garden, owned by Ranbir Singh Iqbal Singh, who reportedly had pending electricity dues of ₹22,600 for the past five months. Mahavitaran’s female staff requested payment from a woman present at the shop. However, after waiting for a considerable time without any response, the team disconnected the power supply as per norms.
Angered by the disconnection, the shop owner, identified as Ranbir Singh (33), a resident of Dixit Nagar, allegedly arrived at the spot and created a ruckus. He is accused of using obscene language against the Mahavitaran staff and issuing life threats. The accused allegedly threatened technician Rupak Upthade, saying he would pay ₹10 lakh to have him killed and break his legs. He also allegedly misbehaved with female employees and threatened Executive Engineer Dhammadeep Fulzele.
Following the incident, Assistant Engineer Gondhule lodged a complaint at Jaripatka Police Station. Acting promptly, Assistant Police Inspector Shashikant Tayde registered an offence against Ranbir Singh Iqbal Singh under relevant sections for obstructing government duty, verbal abuse and criminal intimidation. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Shashikant Tayde.
