Nagpur: A major fire broke out at Jaikamal Complex near Gandhigate in Mahal, claiming the lives of two individuals and injuring two others on Saturday, June 14 night. The incident occurred around 7:30 PM when a fire erupted in a fancy firecracker and decoration warehouse located on the first floor of the complex.

The deceased have been identified as Girish Khatri (35), owner of M.K. Light House, and Vitthal Dhode (25). The injured, Gunvant Nagpurkar (28) and Aishwarya Trivedi, were rescued by the fire brigade and admitted to GMC Nagpur.

The warehouse contained cold fire pyros, halogen lights, and electrical decor items, and the blaze reportedly started during welding work. Panic gripped the mixed-use residential-commercial complex, which houses around 40 flats and 30 shops.

Six fire tenders from Ganjipeth Fire Station, led by Officer P.S. Saiyyad, controlled the flames after hours of operation. Residents revealed they had previously complained to the NMC and Kotwali Police about illegal firecracker storage, but no action was taken.

The fire also damaged external electrical wiring, but a major disaster was averted as the nearby electric DP did not catch fire. Fire officials estimate ₹10 lakh in damages, while stating ₹7 crore worth of property was saved.

The tragedy has sparked outrage among residents over lack of enforcement and fire safety measures. Police investigation is ongoing to determine liability and regulatory violations.
