Nagpur, November 6, 2025 — Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, Lakadganj Police conducted a major operation against the illegal storage and transport of rotten supari in the Small Factory Area, Old Bhandara Road, Nagpur.
Based on confidential information, police teams raided two separate transport godowns in the area.
In the first action at Moryanipur Transport Godown, accused Anup Rameshchand Nagariya was found storing 44 gunny bags of rotten supari (50 kg each) worth ₹8,80,000.
In the second raid at Vikrant Transport Godown, accused Nawaz Chamdiya and others were found in possession of 315 gunny bags of rotten supari (50 kg each) valued at ₹63,00,000.
In total, police seized 359 gunny bags of rotten supari worth ₹71,80,000 intended for use in the preparation of kharra, flavoured supari, and pan masala, which are harmful to human health, as confirmed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The seized material and accused have been handed over to the Food and Drug Administration and Lakadganj Police Station for further legal action.
This operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, as part of Nagpur Police’s continuous drive to curb the manufacture and distribution of life-threatening and unsafe food products.
