Nagpur: Consumer goods worth ₹1.54 lakh were allegedly stolen from a parked truck after thieves tore open its tarpaulin on Central MIDC Road in Nagpur, police said.

The theft took place between 1 am and 8.30 am on September 20 near Jaika Motors under the jurisdiction of MIDC police station. An FIR was registered on September 22.

The complainant, Mahesh Radhelal Soni (33), a truck driver from Pulawali village in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, was transporting household goods from GRC Logistics Company in Sonipat, Haryana, to Kalmeshwar.

According to the complaint, Soni lost his way after reaching Nagpur and parked the truck on the roadside near Jaika Motors. He then went to sleep inside the vehicle.

When he woke up around 8.30 am, Soni noticed that the truck's tarpaulin had been torn open and the goods inside were scattered. On checking the consignment, he found that several items were missing.

The stolen goods included 109 tins of cow ghee valued at ₹1,37,885, 14 bottles of toilet cleaner worth ₹3,500 and four cartons of fluoride toothpaste valued at ₹12,952. The total loss has been estimated at ₹1,54,337.

The MIDC police have registered a case against unidentified persons under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to theft.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the industrial area and conducting further investigation to identify and trace the accused.
