Nagpur: Hudkeshwar Police Station police have registered a criminal case against unidentified accused involved in the illegal transportation of cattle allegedly meant for slaughter.
The action was carried out between 11:45 PM on May 19 and 12:15 AM on May 20, 2026, near Pipla Phata in the Hudkeshwar police jurisdiction after police received a tip-off.
Driver Escapes After Abandoning 12-Wheeler Truck
Police attempted to stop a 12-wheeler truck bearing registration number MH-40-BL-4413. However, the driver halted the vehicle a short distance away and fled the scene under cover of darkness.
Upon inspection in the presence of witnesses, police discovered 29 live cattle tied inside the truck in cruel and illegal conditions without food or water.
Authorities suspect the animals were being transported for slaughter.
Property Worth Rs 16.7 Lakh Seized
Police seized:
- 29 live cattle
- One 12-wheel truck
The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 16.70 lakh.
The rescued cattle were shifted to Ujjwal Gorakshan Kendra for care and protection.
Case Filed Under Animal Protection Laws
Based on a complaint lodged by Lokesh Padmakar Ingale (31), Sub-Inspector Hanumant Nakate registered a case under Sections 325 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 (amended in 1995), and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Police are searching for the accused and further investigation is underway.
