Nagpur: In a major enforcement action, the Zone 1 Police have ordered the temporary closure of two popular eateries — Hotel Bakasur and Apna Dhaba NH1 Restaurant — under Bajaj Nagar Police Station limits for 15 days, starting July 23, 2025. The move comes after repeated violations related to illegal liquor service despite prior warnings and actions.

The crackdown was carried out late on the night of July 22 by police teams under the jurisdiction of Zone 1, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1), S Rushikesh Reddy, following complaints from local citizens and social organisations.

Multiple Violations Despite Previous Warnings

Despite facing previous police actions, both establishments reportedly continued to provide customers with space and arrangements to consume liquor on their premises — without any valid permissions from the Excise Department. Police stated that there had been no visible improvement in the functioning of the establishments, and they continued to flout the law.

Social groups had earlier filed complaints against such activities near Bajaj Nagar Chowk, raising concerns over public nuisance and law and order issues.

Risk to Law and Order During Festive Season

Officials warned that the ongoing illegal activities, if continued during upcoming public events, festivals, and birth anniversaries of prominent personalities, could potentially lead to law and order issues. Considering the sensitivity of the period, and to maintain peace and order, a decision was taken to temporarily seal both premises.

Legal Action and Names of Owners

As per orders issued under Section 142(2) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, the following individuals have been held responsible for the violations Bharat Sushil Dubey & Rohit Raju Meshram (Hotel Bakasur), Mangesh Vijay Kashikar (Hotel Apna Dhaba NH1)

The establishments have been ordered to remain shut for 15 days from July 23, 2025.

Supervision and Execution

The action was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur City Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal and executed by DCP S Rushikesh Reddy of Zone 1. Officials emphasized that such operations would continue against establishments that flout regulations and disrupt public order.
