Nagpur: A 16-year-old Class 10 student lost his life after a speeding truck allegedly rammed into the Activa on which he was riding with his mother in Yashodhara Nagar on February 17.
According to the complaint, around 2 pm, Rina Chandrashekhar Meshram (40) was returning home with her son Atharva Meshram (16) after his Class 10 examination at Delhi Public School on Kamptee Road. The two were riding double-seat on their Activa (MH-49-AM-8984).
Near Pili Nadi Parking Plaza under Yashodhara Nagar Police Station limits, an unidentified truck driver allegedly drove at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner, hitting the scooter before fleeing the scene.
Both victims fell on the road, leaving Atharva critically injured and his mother with minor injuries. Bystanders rushed them to Hope Hospital, where doctors declared Atharva dead during treatment.
Based on a complaint filed by Chandrashekhar Santosh Meshram (48), a resident of Chandramani Nagar, Ajni, police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act. A search has been launched to trace the absconding driver.
