Nagpur: Jewellery worth ₹6.70 lakh was allegedly stolen from a house in Nagpur’s Ramdaspeth area while the house was unoccupied, prompting Sitabuldi police to register a theft case.

According to the complaint, Saroj Vijay Agrawal (66), a homemaker residing at Ramdaspeth, had travelled to Chicago to visit her daughter. She returned home on September 8 and found the house covered in dust. She subsequently called a woman who regularly cleaned her house to carry out cleaning work.

After the cleaning, Agrawal noticed that a pouch containing jewellery, which she had kept beneath a stool in the puja room before leaving for Chicago, was missing.

The stolen property included two diamond pendants, diamond earrings, a diamond bangle, a gold bangle, four gold rings, a mangalsutra and three pairs of gold earrings, besides a bank locker key bearing the number 69. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at ₹6.70 lakh.

Agrawal reportedly suspected the domestic worker, but police have not yet established the identity of the thief.

Sitabuldi police registered a case under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), corresponding to theft in a dwelling house, and launched an investigation.
