Nagpur: A departmental inquiry has been initiated against Police Inspector Rahul Shire for allegedly recording false and misleading information in a report concerning a complaint over the disclosure of confidential documents related to marks in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination for the post of Inspector, State Excise Department.

According to police sources, complainant Ravindra Dinkar Ingole and other candidates had approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Nagpur City, on January 3, 2026, alleging that confidential examination documents containing marks had been disclosed. The complaint was subsequently assigned to Shire, then posted with the Social Security Branch of the Crime Branch, for inquiry.

On April 3, Shire submitted a report recommending closure of the complaint. However, the report stated that the matter had already been investigated by Police Inspector Anil Patil of the Crime Branch, Navi Mumbai.

During the subsequent inquiry, it emerged that Patil had submitted a report holding the Joint Commissioner and other Excise Department officials responsible. His report, however, made no reference to the Joint Secretary of the MPSC.

Despite this, Shire’s report allegedly mentioned the “Joint Secretary, Maharashtra Public Service Commission”, thereby attributing allegations to the officer. Investigators also examined a recording of a phone conversation between Shire and Patil, but found no reference to the MPSC official.

Authorities have now initiated a departmental inquiry to ascertain why the officer’s name was included and whether the allegedly incorrect information was intended to influence the investigation. Disciplinary proceedings have also been initiated over the alleged misconduct.
