Nagpur: Zone 1 police, led by DCP S Rushikesh Reddy, have sealed Dabo Club and Kitchen, located beside Pride Hotel on Wardha Road, for 45 days following a detailed inquiry into a late-night Christmas party brawl that escalated into a murder—an incident authorities say could have been prevented with timely action and adherence to safety norms.

The violence unfolded in the early hours of December 26 when a dispute between two groups inside the club spiralled into a brutal assault, leaving one person dead and two others critically injured. According to police findings, the first signs of trouble surfaced around 4.15 am, but club management alerted the police only at 4.38 am. Officials noted that this delay allowed the situation to worsen, ultimately resulting in the fatal attack.

The investigation revealed multiple violations of excise and public safety rules. The club allegedly allowed over 510 patrons despite a sanctioned capacity of 500 and failed to properly verify identity and age documents. Alcohol was reportedly served to groups after checking the ID of just one person, raising serious concerns of underage drinking.

Police also found that the club lacked a designated dance floor, forcing patrons to dance near dining tables, which led to discomfort, arguments and clashes. CCTV surveillance was inadequate, with blind spots in key areas, and the establishment operated with only one DVR instead of the mandatory two.

Security arrangements were described as grossly insufficient. Of nine security guards, four were posted outside, while footage showed the remaining guards failing to intervene during the violence. Investigators also flagged continued liquor service amid escalating tensions, overcrowding and traffic violations outside the premises.

Citing grave threats to public safety and law and order, police ordered the preventive closure of the club for 45 days from December 27, 2025, underlining that responsible management and prompt police intimation could have averted the murder.
