Nagpur: The State Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday opposed the bail application filed by Ritika Maloo, the primary accused in the Ram Jhula accident case, terming it as premature and baseless. Maloo is currently under police custody, and the CID argued that her bail request is not maintainable at this stage.
During the hearing in the District and Sessions Court, presided over by Judge R S Patil (Bhosle), both the CID and Maloo's defense presented their arguments. After considering both sides, Judge Patil reserved the judgment and stated that the court's decision will be announced next Friday.
Earlier, the First Class Magistrate Court had rejected the CID's plea for Maloo's police custody and instead remanded her to judicial custody. Following this, Maloo's legal team filed a bail application in the Sessions Court.
Subsequently, the Sessions Court granted the CID's revision application, remanding Maloo to police custody from October 8 to 10. Opposing the bail plea, Additional Public Prosecutor Rahmi Khaparde argued that since Maloo is in police custody, her bail application lacks merit and should be dismissed.
The state government has also submitted an application in the Sessions Court to reject Maloo's bail plea. However, Maloo’s lawyer, Advocate Chandrasekhar Jaltare, countered the government's request, contending that the court should consider the bail application on its merits despite Maloo being in police custody. He argued that her custody status should not be grounds for outright dismissal of the bail plea.
