Nagpur: Hudkeshwar police have apprehended a murder convict who had been absconding for over a year after jumping parole. During his time on the run, the convict committed a series of thefts and housebreakings across multiple police jurisdictions, including pawning stolen gold jewellery at a private finance firm.
The accused has been identified as Shekhar Bhimrao Meshram (38), a resident of Chandan Nagar. Meshram was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2011 for a murder case and had been serving time in prison since. He was released on parole in March 2024 but failed to return to custody, following which Imamwada police registered a case against him for absconding.
According to Hudkeshwar police, Meshram resumed criminal activities soon after fleeing. A team of beat marshals received a tip-off about his presence in the area and detained him along with a suspicious motorcycle (MH 49 AG 3249). On verification, the two-wheeler was found to be stolen.
Further searches at Meshram’s residence led to the recovery of another stolen motorcycle (MH 49 BC 0356) and a black bag containing an Apple laptop reported missing in a Hudkeshwar theft case. Under sustained interrogation, Meshram also confessed to a house theft at Ambika Farm House on Kalmeshwar Road in December 2024. He admitted to pawning the stolen gold ornaments at a Manappuram Gold Loan branch.
So far, police have linked Meshram to five theft-related offences—three in Hudkeshwar, one in Imamwada, and one in Kalmeshwar. Stolen property worth ₹1.5 lakh has been recovered.
The operation was spearheaded by Senior Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar, with active support from police personnel Gajanan Nandurkar, Gopal Deshmukh, Sandeep Patil, Santosh Sontakke, Dinesh Gadekar, Chetan Vaidya, Vijay Sinha, Mangesh Madavi, Himanshu Patil, and Kunal Uke.
