Nagpur: A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide after consuming an insect-prevention powder used for grain storage at her residence in the Wathoda area of Nagpur, police said.
The incident took place around 4 pm on December 20, 2025, at Manavshakti Society on Bahadura Road, Kharbi, under Wathoda police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Mahi Kishor Umale (17).
According to police, the girl intentionally consumed the chemical powder, which is commonly used to protect stored rice and grains from insect infestation. Soon after, her health condition deteriorated.
Family members rushed her to a private hospital, from where she was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur. Despite treatment, she succumbed during treatment at 9.40 pm on December 21, 2025. Doctors declared her dead after examination.
Following medical intimation, Wathoda police registered an accidental death (ADR). Police Sub-Inspector Ravindra Chavan is conducting further inquiry, and the reason behind the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
