Nagpur: A female police sub-inspector (PSI) from MIDC Butibori Police Station has been arrested for demanding a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 in exchange for not implicating a complainant in a theft case here, on Thursday, February 6. The accused, 34-year-old Jyotsna Prabhu Giri, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000 in a sting operation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

The complainant, a 26-year-old man from Butibori, had been summoned to the police station for questioning in connection with a theft case. During the investigation, Giri allegedly confiscated his mobile phone and demanded the bribe to ensure he would not be made an accused in the case. The complainant filed a complaint with the ACB on February 6, which led to the verification and subsequent sting operation.

The operation unfolded when Giri, in the presence of witnesses, demanded Rs. 1,00,000 but later agreed to accept Rs. 30,000. The bribe money was seized when Giri accepted the sum at the police station. A raid is currently being conducted at her residence, and the process of filing a criminal case against the accused is underway.

This operation was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Digambar Pradhan, Police Superintendent of Nagpur Rural, and Shri. Sanjay Purandare, Additional Police Superintendent of the same area. The sting operation team was led by Police Sub-Inspector Rakesh Sakarkar, along with his team members from the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
