Nagpur: Despite nearing the typical end of the monsoon season, wet weather is expected to continue across Vidarbha as the Southwest monsoon lingers. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), widespread rains are anticipated to start from September 24, due to a developing cyclonic circulation.
Pravin Kumar, Scientist C at the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur, confirmed that moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in many parts of Vidarbha during the last week of September. "We are expecting widespread monsoon rains in the region from September 24 onwards, due to a cyclonic circulation," he said.
Although the usual withdrawal date for the Southwest monsoon in Vidarbha is October 15, monsoon withdrawal from northwest India is yet to begin, allowing rains to persist in the region.
Meanwhile, Nagpur recorded the highest temperature in Vidarbha on Friday at 35.5°C. The upcoming rainfall is expected to bring some relief from the heat as the region prepares for another spell of monsoon showers.
