Nagpur: In a heart-warming scene that turned a police station into a classroom of courage, pre-primary students from Gurukul Indian Olympic School visited Pardi Police Station on Saturday, December 6, under a unique awareness initiative aimed at removing fear of police from young minds.
During the visit, officers interacted with the children to help them understand that police are protectors, not figures of fear. The students were given a guided tour of the police station, with officials explaining day-to-day functioning, procedures, and demonstrating basic information about weapons handled by the force.
The awareness programme was conducted under the concept of ‘Operation Thunder’, launched under the guidance of the Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal. Woman Police Sub-Inspector Meera Sawant addressed the students and sensitised them on important topics such as good touch, safe use of mobile phones, and the dangers of drug consumption, using simple language suitable for young children.
The initiative was driven as part of DCP Zone 5 Niketan Kadam’s vision to bridge the gap between police and the city’s young citizens by introducing them to law enforcement in a friendly and educational setting.
DCP Zone 5 Niketan Kadam stated, “Today’s children are tomorrow’s responsible citizens. If they know the police as friends from a young age, they grow up with confidence in law and public safety. Our goal is to create awareness and open communication between the police and young minds,” he said.
The interactive session left the children inspired, with many expressing excitement about meeting real-life police heroes and learning how they protect society. The department plans to conduct more such visits in coming weeks to foster trust and awareness among school children across the city.
