Nagpur: Continuing their crackdown on narcotics under the city police’s ‘Operation Thunder – Let’s Unite for a Drug-Free Society’ initiative, the Pachpaoli Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth for possession of MD (mephedrone) powder. The operation was carried out late Thursday night during a routine patrol in the Pachpaoli area.
The accused has been identified as Kish Ram Bamnet (19), a resident of House No. 871, near D-Mart Shoppee, Ashok Chowk, Mangpura, Ganeshpeth. Police intercepted him around 11.45 pm after finding his movements suspicious while he was riding a Yamaha MT-15 motorcycle (MH-49 CE-5599).
A personal search in the presence of witnesses led to the recovery of 5.40 grams of MD powder concealed in a zip-lock pouch. During interrogation, Bamnet revealed that he had procured the contraband from Ravi Mahato (25), a resident near Kashibai Temple, Mangpura, who is currently absconding.
Police seized MD powder, an iPhone, and the motorcycle, collectively valued at ₹2.50 lakh, from his possession. Investigations have revealed that Bamnet was selling the narcotic substance for personal profit.
A case has been registered under Sections 8(c) and 22(b) of the NDPS Act at Pachpaoli Police Station. The accused has been arrested, and a hunt is underway to trace the supplier.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Rahul Madne, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Lakadganj Division) Shweta Khedkar, led by API Baburao Raut with the team comprising PSI Ranjit Majgaonkar, Suresh Yadav, Ravindra Raut, Sushil Rewatkar, Rajkumar Pal, Yunus Khan, and Amit Thakur.
