Nagpur: City’s Jatin Jain participated in the 2025 Dakar Rally, a globally renowned rally raid event held in Saudi Arabia from January 3 to 17. Marking the 47th edition of the Dakar Rally and the sixth time it has been hosted in Saudi Arabia, the event also serves as the opening round of the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship.
Jain became the fifth Indian rider to compete in this prestigious rally, often referred to as the “World Cup of Motorcycles.” Riders are required to excel at national and international levels before qualifying for this championship. Jain with his extensive experience of over 20 years in bike rallies, faced an injury after covering approximately 5,500 kilometers of the grueling 8,800-kilometer rally stretch.
In preparation for the Dakar Rally, Jain competed in various international rally events, including those held in Argentina, Mexico, and Spain. Speaking about his journey, Jain shared, “These rallies not only test your physical endurance but also demand precision, navigation, and mental strength. It’s a lifelong dream for many riders, and being able to represent India is a privilege.”
Jain competed in the rally on a 450 CC KOVE motorcycle, a machine designed to endure extreme terrain and weather conditions. Despite his injury, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete in one of the world’s toughest motorsport events. “The experience is unparalleled. Every stage is a new challenge, and the rally pushes you to your absolute limits,” he added.
However, Jain shed light on the lack of adequate infrastructure in India to support motorsport enthusiasts. According to him, India’s motorsports ecosystem needs significant improvement, including better training facilities, sponsorships, and government support. “This is not an Olympic sport, so the government views it as mere entertainment. We need better infrastructure to nurture talent and promote this sport in India,” Jain remarked.
Jain’s participation at the Dakar Rally is a testament to his dedication and the potential of Indian riders in global motorsports. His journey highlights the need for greater recognition and investment in motorsports to help India produce more world-class riders capable of competing on international platforms.
As he recovers from his injury, Jain is already setting his sights on the 2026 Dakar Rally, aiming not just to compete but to win. “That’s my goal now, to come back stronger and bring the championship home,” Jain concluded with determination.
