Nagpur: Vehicle owners across Maharashtra, including Nagpur, are rushing to comply with a new directive from the Transport Department mandating the installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles registered before April 2019. The deadline for compliance is set for March 31, 2025, and failure to adhere will result in fines under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The Transport Department, on December 4, issued an internal circular to all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), outlining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the implementation of the HSRP mandate. Designed with advanced security features, the plates aim to enhance vehicle identification and curb theft.

The cost for installation has been fixed at ₹450 for two-wheelers and tractors, ₹500 for three-wheelers, and ₹745 for four-wheelers (excluding GST). Three agencies—Rosmerta Safety Systems Ltd, Real Mazon India Ltd, and FTA HSRP Solutions Pvt Ltd—have been authorized to oversee installations in Maharashtra’s three zones.

After the March 2025 deadline, violators will face fines imposed by RTOs and traffic police. Vehicle owners are urged to act promptly to avoid penalties and ensure compliance.
