Nagpur: In a startling development, it has been revealed that a 43-year-old woman from Nagpur, who recently went missing from a village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Ladakh’s Kargil district, crossed the border into Pakistan to meet an online pastor.
The woman, identified as Sunita, a former nurse from a Nagpur hospital, had travelled to Hunderman village — located dangerously close to the LoC — with her 15-year-old son on May 14 for a vacation. On the same day, she suddenly disappeared. When she failed to return after several hours, local residents handed over her son to Ladakh Police.
According to intelligence sources, Sunita is currently in Pakistan and is believed to be in the custody of the country’s security agencies. Reports indicate that after illegally crossing the border, she was spotted by Pakistani villagers who handed her over to local authorities.
Disturbingly, this was not her first attempt to enter Pakistan. Sources claim that Sunita had tried to cross the border twice before. In March this year, she was stopped at the Attari border in Amritsar while accompanied by her son.
Investigators are now scrutinizing her call records, social media chats, and medical documents. Her family has stated that Sunita was suffering from mental health issues and was undergoing treatment at the Regional Mental Hospital in Nagpur.
“She was undergoing psychiatric treatment,” her brother told media persons on Friday outside their residence in Sant Kabir Nagar.
This incident has triggered serious concerns over border security, especially amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan and the presence of heavy military deployment along the LoC.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to ascertain the full scope of her cross-border activity and possible security implications
