Nagpur: In a major welfare initiative, Nagpur Police have started a dedicated daycare centre ‘Chimnighar’ for children of women police personnel. The unique facility was inaugurated on October 4 at Police Headquarters by Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singal.
The initiative comes after recognising the difficulties faced by women officers and constables in balancing professional duties with childcare responsibilities. With many families struggling due to both parents being in service and no one at home to look after young children, the Commissioner conceptualised the daycare to provide a safe and nurturing space.
At the inauguration, Dr. Singal said, “Women police officers and constables in Nagpur perform their duties with honesty and dedication, but childcare remains a constant challenge. ‘Chimnighar’ is their rightful relief, ensuring peace of mind while they serve the city. This model will not only help Nagpur but will also serve as an example for other police forces across the country.”
The ‘Chimnighar’ daycare has been designed like a birdhouse, symbolising care and safety. It is equipped with trained staff, health and hygiene facilities, and safe play areas for children. The initiative ensures that women police personnel can discharge their duties confidently while maintaining a balance between professional and family life.
The inauguration event saw participation from 80 women constables, 4 women officers, and 60 children, along with senior police officials. Deputy Commissioner Mehak Swami and Joint Commissioner Naveen Chandra Reddy also highlighted the need for such welfare measures, while several women police personnel shared their positive experiences.
The programme was attended by Additional Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi (Crime), Deputy Commissioners of Police, and senior officials. The event was coordinated by the Public Relations team of Nagpur Police.
With this initiative, Nagpur Police have set an example in women police welfare and support systems, ensuring better work-life balance for their personnel.
