Nagpur: A man riding on the Mankapur-Gorewada Road near Jaripatka was allegedly verbally abused and manhandled by a police personnel after he confronted him for not wearing a helmet on Wednesday, April 9.
The incident, which was captured on video, shows the police personnel — identified as Anand Singh — accusing the rider of abusing him. However, the video clearly shows the cop hurling abuses at the man himself during the exchange.
According to the complainant, he had merely asked the cop to wear a helmet in compliance with traffic rules. In response, the cop allegedly asked him to pull over and then proceeded to verbally abuse and manhandle him. To divert the matter, the cop accused the complainant of abusing him first.
A formal complaint has been lodged with Jaripatka Police Station regarding the incident.
The video has since gone viral on social media, triggering public outrage. Citizens have demanded strict disciplinary action against the police personnel involved.
Traffic Police Department has issued challan to accused cop for riding without helmet. Cops have also clarified that Singh was returning from dentist following toothache.
