Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh): In a story stranger than fiction, a man in Bareilly eloped with his sister-in-law—only for his brother-in-law to run away with the man’s sister the very next day.
Police said the unusual sequence unfolded in Kamalupur village under Deoranian police station limits. On August 23, Keshav Kumar (28), married for six years and father of two, fled with his 19-year-old sister-in-law Kalpana. Barely 24 hours later, Keshav’s wife’s brother Ravindra (22)disappeared with Keshav’s 19-year-old sister.
Shocked relatives lodged a complaint at Nawabganj police station. Investigators traced both couples by September 14 and 15, Nawabganj SHO Arun Kumar Srivastava confirmed.
Instead of escalating tensions, the families chose reconciliation. In the presence of community elders, they agreed to accept the new relationships and declined to press charges.
With no legal action pending, police closed the case—but the back-to-back elopements have quickly become the talk of the region, drawing curious onlookers and sparking lively discussions across Bareilly.
