Nagpur: Group Captain (Dr) Ranganathan Kannan, PhD, took charge as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Defence at Nagpur on 1 December 2025. He succeeds Group Captain Ratnakar Singh.
Commissioned into the Indian Air Force in 1995, Group Captain (Dr) Ranganathan Kannan, PhD, has 30 years of service as an Administrative Officer. With a master's in mass communication, a PG diploma in management, and a PhD in communication, he effectively combines media, public relations, operational, and administrative skills.
Over the past three decades, he has held key administrative appointments across India, mentored junior officers as an instructor, and led airmen recruitment for the Force as the Commanding Officer of the Airmen Selection Centre in Ambala, covering Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
Commendations from the Chief of Air Staff and Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief acknowledge his professional excellence.
His wife, Amutha Kannan, an independent journalist and published author, is a TEDx speaker and recipient of the Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity.
