Ganeshpeth Police Arrest Man Carrying Deadly Weapon at Cotton Market Area

Nagpur: Ganeshpeth police arrested a man for allegedly carrying a deadly weapon in violation of prohibitory orders at the Cotton Market vegetable market area on Saturday evening.


At around 7.18 pm on January 18, while patrolling within their jurisdiction, Ganeshpeth police received specific information that a man was roaming with a knife at the Cotton Market vegetable market. Acting on the tip-off, the police rushed to the location.


On spotting the police, the suspect attempted to flee but was chased and apprehended. He was identified as Sunilkumar Harishlal Raiy (35), a resident of Cotton Market, Bhaji Mandi area, Ganeshpeth, Nagpur.


During a search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered a sharp iron knife valued at approximately Rs 300 concealed on his person. As the accused was found carrying the weapon with the intention of committing a cognisable offence and had violated prohibitory orders, police registered a case against him.


A case has been booked at Ganeshpeth police station under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, and the accused has been arrested. Further investigation is in progress.


The action was taken under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (North Division) Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madne, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Anita More, by PSI Atul Tayde, ASI Sagar Bhokre, and staff members Ashok Yadav, Girish Jivatode, and Ganesh Pimpale.
