Nagpur: The Anti-Chain Snatching Squad under the Crime Branch arrested a 25-year-old accused involved in a daylight robbery targeting an elderly woman in the Pachpaoli area. The team recovered the stolen gold pendant, beads, a mobile phone, and the scooter used in the crime — all valued at ₹82,000.
According to police, on November 1, complainant Asha Vinayak Sangole (59), a resident of Kashi Nagar, was walking towards a clinic near Indora Square after getting off an auto when two men on a Honda Activa accosted her near 10 No. Pulia Square, opposite an HP petrol pump. One of them slapped her from behind and snatched her mangalsutra weighing about 3 grams worth ₹15,000 before fleeing. A case under Section 392 of the BNS was registered at Pachpaoli Police Station.
During the investigation, Crime Branch officers traced the accused using technical analysis and confidential information. The suspect, Rahul Ashok Chavan (25), a resident of Bapuji Ane Nagar, Yashodharanagar, was arrested. He confessed to the robbery during questioning. Police recovered a gold pendant with beads, a mobile phone, and the Activa (MH 40 AH 9202) used in the crime.
The accused and the seized property have been handed over to Pachpaoli Police for further action.
This operation was executed under the supervision of Police Commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Addl CP (Crime) Vasant Paradeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil.
