Bribery Scandal at Nagpur Collectorate; Revenue Assistant Caught Accepting Rs 5 Lakh Bribe in ACB Trap

Nagpur: In a major anti-corruption crackdown, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nagpur, caught a Revenue Assistant posted at the Nagpur Collectorate office red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.


The accused has been identified as Naresh Sadhuramji Barve (54), a Class-III Revenue Assistant working at the District Collectorate, Nagpur.


Bribe Demanded to Settle Appeal in Complainant’s Favour


According to ACB officials, the complainant (46) had filed an appeal before the Additional District Collector (Slum) office regarding a construction matter on an 1135 sq ft plot located in Shivajinagar, Mahal, Nagpur.


It was alleged that Barve demanded Rs 5 lakh from the complainant in exchange for ensuring that the matter was decided in the complainant’s favour.

Following the complaint, the ACB conducted verification on April 17 and April 20, 2026, during which the bribery demand was confirmed.


Trap Laid Near Accused’s Residence


Investigators said the accused had called the complainant near his residence in New Nandanvan Layout on the night of April 24, 2026, between 11 pm and 12 midnight, to collect the bribe amount.


Based on this information, the ACB laid a trap and caught Barve while accepting the cash in the presence of independent witnesses. The entire Rs 5 lakh bribe amount was seized from his possession.


Case Registered Under Prevention of Corruption Act


A case has been registered against the accused at Nandanvan Police Station, Nagpur City, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.


Senior Officials Supervised Operation


The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Dr Digambar Pradhan, Superintendent of Police, ACB Nagpur, Additional Superintendents of Police Madhuri Baviskar and Vijay Mahulkar, along with Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharti Guranule and the ACB team.


ACB Appeals to Citizens


The Anti-Corruption Bureau has appealed to citizens to come forward fearlessly and report any government official demanding bribes for official work.
